Sofia Coppola

Sofia Coppola incorporated cultural relevance with a splash of the basic knowledge. In the film, Marie Antoinette, culture was a big part of it. The characters in the film judged people mainly for what country they came from. This was a big part of the movie. Marie Antoinette was not accepted in the beginning because of where she came from. This was interesting to me because the relevance seems to still happen to this day. Marie could feel the others judging her, when she would walk around the palace she could feel the others chatting about her. The message I received from this film was that we never really know what people are going through, we can assume all we want, but we really never know what goes on in someone else's mind. Marie seemed to have it all, she could buy as many diamonds as she wanted. That stuff did not fulfill her though, she was struggling herself. Her husband was not being a good husband and she was always being judged by others. We tend to think we know everything about others based off of what they show, we truly never know. I enjoyed this film and the little messages it gave through out the film.

Rear Window

I recently watched the movie "Rear Window" directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and I really enjoyed it. Something that I loved about the movie was the setting it took place in. It was in New York during the 1950's. This setting gave a very comforting and nostalgic feeling for me. I have always wanted to travel to New York because I love big cities, the apartment complex gave the sense of business that cities offer. The 1950's reminds me a lot of my grandma because I know she experienced life how they showed it in the movie. There is something about that time that I love. Overall, I liked the whole movie and everything it had to offer. I thought the actors were talented and seemed like the big screen actors at that time. I recommend everyone to watch this movie. There are a couple of good laughs to get out of it, but also just the appreciation of old cinematography. Rear Window movie review & film summary (1954) | Roger Ebert

How to Watch a Movie

Hi all! In chapter 2 it talks about cinematic language. Cinematic language is a set of rules and conventions by which cinema communicates meaning to the viewer. As watchers, we don't realize these things. The language is meant to just flow into the movie. This includes the shots, frames, and editing. I found this interesting because when watching movies, we don't think about all the little things they put into them that make such a difference. Without these details, movies would be dry and useless. All the different angles they capture make such a big difference in the movie without the watchers realizing it.
